Active FEES membership
The Società Italiana di Ergonomia e Fattori Umani (SIE), founded in 1968 in Milan, is the leading scientific society for ergonomics and human factors in Italy.
The SIE is a federated member of both the International Ergonomics Association (IEA) and the Federation of European Ergonomics Societies (FEES), actively promoting collaboration and communication with ergonomists globally.
Mission and Scope
SIE’s core mission is to promote the study and dissemination of ergonomic knowledge for the well-being of people and society.
The SIE aims to promote the development of ergonomics and the study of human factors (due to its anthropocentric vocation), as well as the dissemination and systematisation of knowledge and experiences related to the ergonomic approach, closely linked to the social, environmental, and productive realities in which humans work and live, including schools and universities.
It also aims to promote the proper development of professional aspects and to provide a point of reference for the institutional bodies responsible for regulating professions.
Key Activities 🛠️
The Society carries out several activities to support the profession and advance the science of ergonomics:
Scientific Publishing: It publishes the scientific journal “Rivista Italiana di Ergonomia” (Italian Journal of Ergonomics), which covers a wide range of current topics, including sustainable ergonomics, mental health at work, design for all, and the impact of technology (e.g., exoskeletons, human-robot interaction).
Conferences and Training: SIE organises national congresses (e.g., SIE2022) and various training seminars/webinars and events focused on emerging themes like:
Usability and design for the future of work
Health and safety in the context of Industry 4.0.
Ergonomics of the territory and walking paths.
Design for all and accessibility
Healthcare ergonomics and patient safety
Legislative updates and preventive activities for health and safety at work.
Professional Certification: SIE supports the professional qualification of its members, including national certification in accordance with a dedicated UNI standard and the European Ergonomist (Eur. Erg.) certification, issued by the Centre for Registration of European Ergonomists (CREE).
Ethical Standards: The Society sets a strict Code of Professional Conduct and Practice, requiring members to maintain the highest levels of professionalism, integrity, and objectivity, and to prioritise the well-being of all individuals.
Norms and Standards: SIE is active in collecting and disseminating knowledge about relevant UNI EN ISO standards concerning ergonomics.
