The Welding and Ergonomics Symposium 2014 was a joint event of the International Institute of Welding (IIW) C-VIII Health, safety and environment, the Federation of the European Ergonomics Societies (FEES).
Program and presentations to download:
Greatings from Dr. Christa Sedlatschek, Director of EU-OSHA- Luca Costa (Chairman C VIII): Overview of welding activities in relation to ergonomics
- Dr. Wolfgang Zschiesche (Vice Chairman C VIII): Overview of C VIII work on ergonomics
- Pieter Rookmaaker Eur. Erg.: Design of a ergonomic welding cabin
- Reinier Hoftijzer (FEES board member): Latest developments of the European PPE directives
- Prof. Lajos Izsó: Prevention of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (wMSD) of welders through training
- Mischinger Gábor Eur Erg.: Experimental Ergonomic Risk Assessment of Welding Tasks
- Gyula Szabó Eur. Erg.: Case of the worn fodder silo
It became clear after an extended discussion that for the near future particular attention should be paid to the further elaborations of best and pragmatic practices for the employers of the content of the welding job and to the circumstances in which that job should be executed.
Particular attention should be also given in this regard to the reduction of static load and unfavourable posture during the welding job.
The symposium agreed to investigate about this more collaboration with other organisations who are involved in this field or related areas.
Symposium message:
Participants of the Welding and Ergonomics Symposium 2014 encourage manufacturers to design and employers and workers to use tools and working environment usable in a safe and healthier way in order to reduce bad and static posture, force, vibration and repetition.
