Ergonomics Redefined – Summer University on Ergonomics

7-8-9 July 2021 Virtual (Budapest) Summer University on Ergonomics (34. ERGONÓMIAI NYÁRI EGYETEM)

We kindly invite you to the 34th Summer University of Ergonomics, this time in the virtual space.
The program follows the usual Summer University structure: there will be professional lectures on Wednesday, good practices on Friday, and we will go on-site on Thursday – virtually.

The opening sessions dedicated to the EU-OSHA “Lighten the Load” campaign; at the same time, it explores ergonomics beyond the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders.

This year summer university is unique because it’s a joint event of the Austrian Ergonomics Society, the Hungarian Ergonomic Society, the Ergonomics & Workplace Management Society [ERGOWORK] from Romania, the Bulgarian Association of Ergonomics and Human Factors. Up to the shared English sessions, there are tracks for each language, i.e. a Bulgarian one on Artificial Intelligence and ergonomics, a Hungarian on Office and sedentary work, Polish on mental workload, Romanian on service ergonomics.
Several universities contribute to this summit university working together in the Ergonomics and Human Factors Regional Educational CEEPUS Network.

Council meeting April 2021

The Federation of the European Ergonomics Societies council meeting will be held online from 10:00 to 11:30, on 7 April 2021.

The only subject for this council is the moving of FEES from Dortmund to Brussels.

Councillors need to contact the president of the organisation for technical details.

The next council meeting is scheduled for 12 June 2021, before the IEA council and triennial conference.

IEA 2021 – Going Hybrid!

IEA2021 will be a hybrid event, comprising both an in-person conference and a virtual conference

Going hybrid will allow people who, for a variety of reasons, will not be able to join the in-person conference in Vancouver to participate in the most important human factors and ergonomics conference of 2021. As such, this initiative will take to a whole new level the IEA mission to elaborate and advance ergonomics science and practice while expanding its scope of application and contribution to society.

The IEA 2021 Congress will comprise 5 days of technical content, including plenary sessions at the start of each day followed by 12 concurrent sessions. We have also added ePosters to enhance the traditional poster boards. The ePosters will be dynamic, supporting several presentation formats. Times for interacting with the authors will be posted, but the posters will be available on your mobile app during the Congress and for 30 days afterwards. We believe this initiative will promote greater interaction and will have a great impact.

Registration fees will be reduced to make the virtual conference widely accessible. And, virtual session delegates will be able to join the online webinars at scheduled times to pose questions and interact with the authors. The recorded virtual sessions will be available on demand for 30 days post Congress. In-person delegates will have access to the virtual conference as well.

The main body of the Congress will be the in-person conference. We urge everyone to submit proposals for lectures or ePosters and plan to attend the in-person event. It will be truly unforgettable! Nothing can really replace the in-person experience.

Ergonomics for Occupational Safety and health

“Ergonomists are committed to creating safe and healthy workplaces with the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders.” The Federation of the European Ergonomic Societies applied to be the official campaign partner of the upcoming Healthy Workplaces – Lighten the Load 2020-2022 campaign organized by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA).

The EU-OSHA campaign Healthy Workplaces—Lighten the Load 2020-2022 is raising awareness of work-related MSDs and encouraging employers, managers, workers, and their representatives to work together to manage those risks. For more information, see www.healthy-workplaces.eu.
Ergonomics plays a clear role in this activity. By its nature, ergonomics aims at prevention. Ergonomists have experience organizing participatory workplace interventions and developed strategies and practices to improve design activity in companies, and, after all, a great deal of the risks associated with safety and health can be derived from poor ergonomic design.

FEES campaign activities:

  1. FEES maintain a campaign partner position and promotes ergonomics directly through the campaign website and to the partners.
  2. Communicate that FEES and Federated Societies are members of the EU-OSHA network at the proper focal point.
  3. FEES selects one of the conferences dedicated to the campaign by Federated societies as the European Champaign conference.
  4. A press release a year
  5. Forwarding information between Federated Societies and other EU-OSHA partners through the campaign website
  6. FEES provides a slide show as resource material in English, which highlights ergonomics in the campaign
  7. Encourages all federated societies to become active members of the national EU OSHA focal point network.
  8. Encourages all federated societies to include the campaign message in their newsletter when is appropriate.
  9. Encourages all federated societies to organise at least one annual event dealing with the actual EU-OSHA campaign. The description of the events is at https://www.healthy-workplaces.eu/en/campaign-material/introducing-the-campaign-guide
  10. Encourages all federated societies to share their campaign materials with others through the FEES website.
  11. Encourages all federated societies to maintain a page (national language) on their website dedicated to the campaign,
    • with the campaign logo and link,
    • with FEES Campaign Pledge,
    • with a link to the FEES campaign site

In the European Month of Ergonomics 2020 FEES
highlights what ergonomics is beyond MSD and the role of ergonomics in workplace safety and health.

We are in an extraordinary situation, and it will probably last a long time. We all have to think about the sustainability of our activities, the ones of our customers, of our colleagues,…

For any profession, Teleworking is a chance for continuity. But the rules, the requirements for such a situation are not so distinct. We have to consider the knowledge accumulated on this solution for several decades.

FEES is pleased to offer you a free webinar about practical aspects of teleworking :

  • What are the different aspects of managing?
  • What change in the relationships within teams?
  • What requirements for the equipment?
  • What available resources? (guidelines, advice,…)

This conference will be delivered in French firstly, and then we will reproduce it in English. The idea is to share the content with all countries, and give to each member the option to deliver it in his own language.

Associated with this webinar, we will deliver a set of documents about the topic. Besides, we will use your feedback to improve this summary and add them to the resources.

This first event begins on May 6th, 16h. It will last 40 minutes, including 20 minutes presentation and 20 minutes questions.
